Hagley Park – Christchurch City Council
PURE Lighting was awarded this landmark sports lighting project through a competitive tender process, delivering a world-class LED lighting solution for one of Christchurch’s premier sporting venues. Designed to support both community and high-performance sport, the upgrade has transformed Hagley Park into a more versatile facility capable of hosting evening training sessions, competitive matches, and major rugby events.
Elite-Level Lighting Across Six Rugby Fields
The project involved the supply and installation of nine 27-metre floodlight poles and advanced LED sports luminaires across six rugby fields. Designed and installed in accordance with AS 2560.2:2021 Sports Lighting standards, the system delivers professional match lighting levels of 500 lux across four fields and training lighting levels of 250 lux across two fields.
Adjustable LED luminaires allow operators to seamlessly switch between training and match settings, optimising both performance and energy efficiency. An intelligent lighting control system provides flexible access for multiple user groups while enabling usage tracking and streamlined facility management.
The new lighting infrastructure significantly enhances the functionality of the venue, providing a safe, high-quality playing environment and extending the availability of the fields well into the evening. The result is a future-ready sporting precinct that better meets the needs of players, clubs, officials, and the wider Christchurch rugby community.
