Rugby and Football Field Lighting

Boasting a comprehensive range of rugby field lighting, Pure Lighting is quickly becoming a premier name in New Zealand. With plentiful experience in rugby (union and league) and football grounds, we supply clubs, councils and schools with specialty lighting fitouts tailored to your specifications. For standards, cost and process, see our sports lighting page.

Lighting for Rugby and Football Fields

Rugby union and league: With multiple options available for the rectangular ground, rugby lighting also requires glare control above the field for high kicks and contestable balls, regardless of which code is played. Most clubs train several teams after dark through winter.

Football: Usually played on comparatively smaller grounds and based around low, fast passes, football (or soccer) field lighting needs to provide even coverage across the whole surface. Artificial turf fields get used every night, like Hamilton Marist’s 5G turf.

Built Around Your Club

Clubs often need several fields lit in one project, as with Hamilton City Council’s 19 fields across seven parks. Existing lighting poles can often be extended instead of replaced, as Mid Northern did with 19 new LED floodlights. Light spill near neighbouring housing can be managed, as at Ashurst Park, and training and match modes let clubs switch between everyday and game-day lighting.

Our Sports Lighting Range

Our range is headlined by the powerful Pure Platinum Sports Light PLSFL1200 and Legacy Invictus floodlights, including the Invictus 1500 at King Country. Both include LED controls for dimming and zoning between training and matchdays. View the full range here.

FAQS

Can you light several club fields in one project?

Yes. For example, Hamilton City Council has 19 fields across seven parks, and Northern Wairoa has multiple.

Can we reuse our existing light towers?

Yes, if they meet structural requirements. Mid Northern extended its poles and added 19 LED floodlights.

Does a rugby field need different lighting from a football field?

No. Light levels depend on the level of play, not the code. Layout and glare control are what change.

Can artificial turf fields be lit for use every night?

Yes. Hamilton Marist paired its new 5G turf with LED lighting for day or night training and matches.
